Hey Legends! Who’s game for some Canyoneering?
I’ve got the weekend of the 14th and 15th of December free and with less rivers flowing over summer I’m thinking we mix it up with some abseiling as a change from rafting!
No specific skills or experience is required but you do need to be prepared to learn how to abseil and be game for a bit of swimming and bushwalking.
Plan is to meet at the rafting sheds at 0800 on Saturday before getting our gear organised and driving up to cradle mountain where we’ll run Machinery creek, a good beginners canyon.
We will camp the night somewhere in the area, have a big bbq ready for another day of adventures on Sunday. A precise plan for that will be determined on the day depending on the water levels and experience of the group but will be more arduous than day one. If we have wide disparities in experience levels we may spit in to a couple of groups to cater better to everyone.
Gear you will need to bring is exactly the same as for a rafting trip. (the club provides wetsuits, helmets, equipment etc). Make sure you have a towel, enclosed shoes that you can swim and walk on slippery rocks in.
Given this will be a camping trip make sure you bring a sleeping bag, mat and pillow. We will bring a bunch of tarps that can cover everyone and wood for a camp fire.
I expect we’ll all need to chip in around $30 to cover petrol and $10 each to cover a bbq dinner, breakfast and snacks that I will sort. You can pack lunch or we will stop at bakeries for that. If we have a bunch of people that need to be getting to the sheds from Uni we will organise a vehicle to come via here.
Any questions let me know!
