Hey Legends! Who’s game for some Canyoneering?

I’ve got the weekend of the 14th and 15th of December free and with less rivers flowing over summer I’m thinking we mix it up with some abseiling as a change from rafting!

No specific skills or experience is required but you do need to be prepared to learn how to abseil and be game for a bit of swimming and bushwalking.

Plan is to meet at the rafting sheds at 0800 on Saturday before getting our gear organised and driving up to cradle mountain.

A specific plan in relation to what we will do on each day will be determined on the day based on how many people we have. The only certain is that we will be doing Machinery creek at some point, a good beginners canyon with around 6 abseils down some beautiful waterfalls.

We will camp the night somewhere in the area, have a big bbq ready for another day of adventures on Sunday.

Gear you will need to bring is exactly the same as for a rafting trip. (the club provides wetsuits, helmets, equipment etc). Make sure you have a towel, enclosed shoes that you can swim and walk on slippery rocks in. See this article if you’re unsure –

Given this will be a camping trip make sure you bring a sleeping bag, mat and pillow. We will bring a bunch of tarps that can cover everyone and wood for a camp fire (contingent on fire ban situations being favourable). Bring a tent, camp chairs or any extra stuff that might tickle your fancy if so inclined (but your personal sleeping gear combined with the clubs tarps is the minimum needed).

I expect we’ll all need to chip in around $30 to cover petrol (we will car pool up there) and $15 each to cover a bbq dinner, breakfast and snacks that I will sort along with abseiling harnesses I will need to source for everyone. You can pack lunch or we will stop at bakeries for that. If we have a bunch of people that need to be getting to the sheds from Uni we will organise a vehicle to come via here.

Any questions let me know!

Just to clarify, would be leaving Saturday morning sometime? Not Friday night? Would love to join, just need to make sure I have the appropriate nights off work.

Hey Paul, definitely leaving Saturday morning, camping the evening and getting back rather late on sunday.
