Time for a more full on multi day mission! Plan is to do it over the uni break to make life easier for everyone. This will be a 3-4 day trip leaving early on Monday the 1st of July. I will organise a meet up directly prior to the event to sort out gear and a more specific plan at the rafting sheds (probably on the Saturday before). At this stage if you would like to attend please sign up and or get in touch with me and let me know your contact details etc.
The exact river will be determined closer to the date based on water levels and experience, options will be –
1 – Franklin river walking out over Frenchmans Cap (requires low water levels)
2 – Walk in to the Tarkine, paddle out on the Upper Savage/Whyte river (requires medium water levels)
3 – Upper Weld river (requires high water levels)
All of these trips involve a reasonable degree of uncertainty, quite possibly lots of tough walking with heavy gear in potentially terrible weather conditions. We also might have people in packrafts which requires a bit more Independence.
In my experience these sort of epics make for the best kind of adventure but it is worth noting that trips such as this are not suitable for beginners. You should have some basic overnight bush walking experience along with some time on river. If you have any doubts about this or I haven’t rafted with you before please drop me a line so we can have a chat about it. It’ll have to be a small team to make things work so I may have to limit numbers depending on interest levels.
I will sort out catering, I have a dehydrator and will organise food with that. Expect everyone to chip in some cash to cover food and petrol. Likewise I will handle most of the camping gear, we’ll be taking some lightweight tarps to cover everyone. It will be critical to keep weight down on a trip such as this so everyone will need to pack very light. I will talk with everyone more about equipment closer to the time but you’ll need some basic camping gear and your usual on river kit.
Any questions hit me up, facebook, text or email is best as I work crazy shifts and am often outside of phone reception.
