If you’re new to the club (and the university), you have two ways of becoming a member:
Option 1: Website
Sign up online on our website. Click here and select the membership option that applies to you (UTas student $15 or non-student $40) by clicking the yellow PAY WITH PAYPAL button. After you have paid, log in with your username and password to complete the registration process.
Option 2: At a rafting club stall or at a trip meeting
Fill in a paper form available from our stalls at O-Week events like Market Day (Tues 23 Feb) or Societies Day (Wed 24 Feb), and pay for your membership in cash (we cannot accept EFTPOS or credit card, sorry). If you sign up on paper, we will create an account for you on our website. You will receive an email when this has been completed. This may take up to two or three weeks as we have lots of new memberships to process, so please bear with us patiently.
Once you become a member, you are eligible to take part in any of our rafting trips or social events.
You can register your interest for an intro trip by putting your name down for a specific date at one of our O-Week stalls. This helps us estimate how many people will be going on a certain day, so we can make sure we have enough guides, equipment, and transport.
Leaving your name on the intro trip sheet at our stall does not guarantee that you get to go on that trip. To confirm your place on an intro trip, you MUST come to the trip meeting on the Friday evening before your trip, at 6 pm at the Ref steps (TUU carpark). There is a limit of 30 people per trip, so be sure to register your interest early at our stall (if you also pay your membership and $40 intro trip fee at the same time, we will give you priority for that trip if there are more than 30 people who wish to go) AND go to the trip meeting.
The trip meeting is very important because that’s when your trip leader tells you what time and where to meet on the morning of the trip. He/she will also give you an idea of which rivers you’ll be rafting. We then finalise the list of people who are going on each day, and decide how many people need to drive cars to take us all to the river.
If you have registered for an intro trip but are unable to come to the trip meeting, please tell us in advance so we can make alternative arrangements for you. You can send us an email at firstname.lastname@example.org.
We usually give our members the option of signing up online (using the “events” page on our website) for rafting trips. However, we are not doing this for the Sem 1 intro trips because there are so many new people who want to go on them. Therefore, to be fair to everyone, we insist that you book your place on the trip by coming to the meeting. This reduces the likelihood of a genuinely keen new member losing out on a trip due to a no-show, and also helps us plan the best possible trip for you.
